Folk Singer Odetta passes at age 77

All,

If you ever had a chance to hear Odetta sing and perform live, you would know that we have just lost a Legend of Music.
I had the pleasure of seeing her perform in the Summer of 2006 at Prospect Park's Celebrate Brooklyn Festival. She was filling in for Bobby "Blue" Bland who was sick and unable to perform.
As frail as she seemed the power within her gave everyone in the audience the hope to keep striving for the meet their goals as she did that night.
There wasn't a dry eye in the air that night.
Truly an amazing performance and what a story teller.
Odetta, the singer whose deep voice wove together the strongest songs of American folk music and the civil rights movement, died on Tuesday at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. She was 77. The cause was heart disease, said her manager, Doug Yeager. He added that she had been hoping to sing at Barack Obama's Inauguration.Click on this link to read the full story.http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/03/arts/music/03odetta.html?_r=1&hp
Need to know more hit this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odetta
Rest In Peace Odetta, you will be missed.
Peace and One Love,
Tom Paul

SundayBest Collective featuring artists selling their crafts and performances by Karen Bernod/Martha Redbone/Keith Fluitt/Tomas Doncker

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sunday, December 7th from 2pm-7pm

***FREE EVENT***

The Katalist has put together a really cool event in Greenwich Village called The SundayBest Collective.

The SundayBest Collective; a unique forum of hip artisans, trendsetters and entertainers was created to showcase the works and talents of their international, unknown and independent peers. This collective is not just the people; it's not just the artwork. It's an urban bazaar/cocktail party/networking event.

There will be music, mingling, and lots of people like you there getting their "party started". It's like a remix of what you typically come to expect from an average everyday flea market or art show because this event is meant to "match-make" lovers of beautiful things with those who create.

Whether it's art (both wearable and fine) or music, The SundayBest Collective is the event that brings it to the community-at-large in an environment without the heavy sell because the merchandise speaks for itself. See for yourself in this really cool video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZydsCwIlaFo

We have also recently added a terrific music line-up as well. You can see that trailer here:

The Absense of Cool in a Small World Tour

Two organic and musically soulful brothers of song, separated by continents at birth now unite in 2008 in Brooklyn NY. , KUKU a Washington DC based, Nigerian native who defines his sound in the form of his 'Afro-Soul Acoustic Experience' and Tomas Doncker, a native New Yorker with West Indian roots who makes 'GroovySexMusic' as his Imprint Label suggests, are a pair set to redefine what it sounds like when crafty songwriters perform their hearts and souls to a live audience. Upon meeting through an introduction by fellow singers/songwriter and http://www.soutltracks.com/ staffwriter, Tom Paul, Tomás Doncker invited KUKU to sing on the title track of 'Small World', his most recent release. After the recording session in the summer 2008, they spent the rest of day trading songs and ideas about future collaborations. The culmination is the "Absence of Cool in a Small World" tour.

KUKU and Tomas currently have a pair of nationally and internationally released albums, guitar and string endorsements and a dedicated and ever growing fan base. They've played on some of the nation's premier stages yet they are equally as comfortable performing in intimate settings. To get a sneak peak at this Global Soul Summit go to these links: http://www.kukulive.com/ andwww.myspace.com/tomasdoncker

The tour starts off on November 15th at Frank's Cocktail Lounge http://www.frankscocktaillounge.com/ monthly NU SOUL Saturday's showcase of Indie Soul Artists featuring Tomas Doncker and KUKU with a listening party for Kameron Corvet's new release "Korporate Rockstar". On a political note, words cannot describe my happiness knowing that BarackObama will be our next President of the United States. I am overwhelmed by thepassion and spirit of so many of us who gave money, made phone calls, rallied, etc. to help make this election a success... and it worked. When I think of howmany people have waited for this day, how many have passed on not believing thisday would ever come, I think of our guitarist Alan AB Burroughs' 103year-old grandmother who was born during Jim Crow and lived to see this day...even though there is still so much to sort out, it is so important that we areinvolved in the decisions made in our country...a change has finally come...more later...

Kindness & peace,

Martha
